Bite on Gauze for 30 Minutes
To stop any bleeding. If any bleeding continues, place gauze and continue to apply pressure.
For at Least 24 Hours, Do Not:
Smoke, drink through a straw, drink alcohol, carbonated beverages, or hot liquids, blow your nose too hard, spit excessively. Any of these things may cause the blood to clot over the surgery to dislodge from the “socket”, causing a “dry socket” and resulting in unnecessary pain (Should this happen, call this office as soon as possible to see the Doctor).
Maintain a Soft Diet
For the remainder of the day; things such as warm soup, ice cream, and milk shakes (remember no straws). IF YOU’RE IN PAIN, DISCOMFORT, OR BLEEDING CONTINUES, call the office for re-examination.
If You Were Given Medications
Take them according to the instructions. If you have pain medications at home you may take them according to the instructions.
The Next Day
Start rinsing gently with warm salt water (1/4 teaspoon of salt to one cup of water) every 4 hours for 2 days.
